"friends continue to

remember"

In February, one of my "Helping Heart " volunteers made me aware of a little seven year old boy who was recently diagnosed with leukemia. This was the same age that my granddaughter, Jordan, was diagnosed with a cancer identified as chondro-sarcoma. I spoke with his grandmother and she told me that he was unable to attend school at this time due to the treatments and the risk of infections. There seemed to be nothing that I could do to help the family, but I wanted to brighten this little boy's days with something special. I decided a gift certificate from Toys R Us would be fun.  He could choose whatever he wanted to play with while he was home, whether it be crafts, toys, books or videos. I remember how happy Jordan was to receive cards and gifts while she was ill and even while she was recovering.  She couldn't wait for the mail to come each day.  So many of my friends continue to remember her in their prayers and send her cards of encouragement and hope. Every time I think of Jordan, I am reminded of how important it is to help these children who are battling cancer.

With hope and love,

.... a check to "Help From The Heart" for me to help her
anonymously.

This month I received an e-mail from a kind gentleman in his seventies who had visited my web site and wished to help me help one of his students whom he had coached fifteen years ago. He admired this young woman for her courage and determination in attaining her goals despite a constant struggle with a serious illness which required her to be on strong medications. She had worked her way through college and had endured more hardships than most people have to face in a lifetime. In the past several years, her life was blessed with two beautiful children who have given her life new meaning and hope. In spite of her struggles, she always kept her faith in God and always shared what little she had with others. When her coach learned that she did not have enough money to rent a truck to relocate and no funds for a deposit to have the electric turned on, he forwarded a check to "Help From The Heart" for me to help her anonymously. I matched his contribution in order to feel assured that this young woman could get a new start in life. The generosity of this man has enriched this young mother's life and given her hope in the midst of despair.
This story brought to mind a contribution that I received earlier this month from a dear woman who was my physical education instructor in high school forty years ago. Her sweet and uplifting cards and notes cheered me while I was recovering from breast cancer. She learned about my foundation through my family and wanted to help me make a difference in the lives of those who were less fortunate. The compassionate deeds of others so willing to help in my crusade confirms that my mission is truly a ministry of God. In her beautiful letter to me, she closed with, "May the Christmas Love of God with us be in your heart all year." God Bless You, Ruth Ann!

From my heart,
